Home kitchens don’t really have a dedicated kitchen tool for each task, contrary to what your Pinterest board suggests. Most Indian kitchens, prefer multipurpose tools, especially when it comes to knives. 

So when our team of researchers found this everyday knife with over 1,400 reviews and a 4.6 star rating, this had to be reviewed. For our Victorinox Paring Knife review, we tested this tool with multiple ingredients over weeks.

How did we test Victorinox Paring Knife? What were the parameters we set for our review process? 

Tested for over a period of four weeks, our parameters enabled us to get results on the quality, comfort, and the speed at which the blade starts to lose sharpness. 

1. Performance

We checked to see if or not this knife would serve multipurpose uses. In the sense, could this cut soft fruits (mangoes, melons) as well as tough veggies like beetroot, raw potatoes, onions, beans, etc. 

This sub-parameter also involved reviewing the versatility in terms of functions. Chopping, dicing, julienning, peeling- could the knife perform well in all aspects?

2. Design

On average, Indian homes freshly prepare 2-3 meals everyday that require a considerable amount of peeling, dicing, chopping and more. This is why the grip and comfort are crucial aspects to be assessed. We gauged the size of the blade in respect to that of the handle, the size of the handle and whether or not it feels comfortable to hold. Is the knife sturdy to hold and work with or is the quality mediocre?

Price + Packaging

The knife was securely packed in a sliding tray. Priced at Rs 390/-, it weighs 21 grams and the length of the blade is 8 cm. Additionally, this is dishwasher-safe. 

Material + Construction

The blade is made of stainless steel and the handle of polypropylene. The construction seems secure, and the overall appearance of the knife was quite plush. 

How did we test this?

Everyday fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, mangoes, melons were chopped to test the efficacy of the blade. 

These testings were conducted for over four weeks to arrive at a fair conclusion. During certain tests, we used the knife for up to 30 minutes to assess the comfort and if or not the palm or wrist hurt due to grip. 

Performance

The knife performed exceptionally. The knife glided through softer fruits and veggies like butter, it was super smooth. Next, the potatoes and melon were chopped with utmost precision. 

In addition to this, we peeled the potatoes and apples which resulted in thin peels, without much waste. Thumbs up for versatility too. 

The blade did not really turn blunt during our four weeks of testing.

Do note that in case of tools and appliances, we continue our testing even after the official review process is complete. We update our review in case there are any new observations.

Design

Not just lightweight, this knife offered a fairly comfortable grip too. With over 25-30 minutes of constant peeling and chopping, this did not cause any discomfort on the wrist or palm. 

The wavy blade also helps grip the vegetable you’re chopping, but doesn’t really influence the cut or design of the vegetable.

PS- owing to the sharp pointed edge of the blade, we could chop softer vegetables without squishing them!
