Our Review Factors
Texture and taste were the key parameters we based this review on. Other significant details that impact the final purchase decision have also been discussed.
1. Texture
How long did the noodles take to cook? How was the bite? We were looking for a firm yet soft bite without them turning squidgy and sticky. Post-cooking, how did the noodles look?
Their thickness, texture and length were collectively judged under this parameter.
2. Taste
Were the noodles salted? How well or poorly did they take on flavors? Did we notice any undesirable aftertaste?
3. Other Parameters
Here we gauged the ingredients, how convenient these are to use, the price, and other non-tasting parameters.
Tops Plain Noodles – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
These noodles have a semi-premium box packing. It holds 300 grams of the product and is priced at Rs 55/- The shelf life is 12 months.
This would yield a little over three servings, which makes it an economic choice.
Main Ingredients
Maida, iodised salt, and antioxidant (INS 330) are the only ingredients that go in the making.
How did we make it?
Following the proportions mentioned on the box, we used half of the noodles (approximately 150 grams) and boiled them in 750 ml of water. We added half a teaspoon of salt. Once boiled, we drained and washed them with cold water and oiled them lightly, as instructed on the pack.
Oiling boiled noodles ensures they do not stick to each other between the time of boiling and actual usage.
Our Experience
It took less than three minutes for the noodles to cook well. These were long and unbroken, and this aspect was retained after they were cooked too. We tasted the noodles before mixing them in sauce and they had a fairly decent bite. Soft but firm, this made for a desirable texture. In terms of flavor, the noodles were not over salted which makes them a good base for multiple dishes.
Ensure to not let the noodles soak or sit in water before or after cooking, and as soon as they are done, drizzle some oil and mix them well.
Pros
- Value for money
- Versatile
- No undesirable flavor
- Quick cooking
- Praiseworthy bite
