Tong Garden Sunflower Seeds are a flavorful way to incorporate the nutrition benefits with a twist. We liked the Salted and Honey variants, as indicated by the ratings.
‘Small but mighty’ this perfectly summarises how nutrient-dense nuts and seeds are. Now, what if these were flavored?
Tong Garden offers a wide range of nuts and seeds with the aim of making snacking healthier and flavorful. From their range of almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds, we ordered three variants (salted, honey, and BBQ) for our Tong Garden Sunflower seeds review.
Salted, honey, or BBQ- which won?
Our Review Factors
We set out to find in our Tong Garden Sunflower seeds review how bold the flavors were, the freshness, textures, and in-depth details on the ingredients and nutrition quotient.
1. Flavor
Sunflower seeds have a unique nutty flavor. Did the seeds taste fresh?
Were the seasoning and flavoring agents prominent? Was the salted variant too savory or balanced? What about honey? Did BBQ have the smokey flavor?
2. Texture
A bold crunch, a soft bite, or soggy? How were these seeds?
3. Nutrition Quotient
What percent of sunflower seeds have been added? What about the seasoning, too high on salt/sugar? Does the brand use refined oils or flours? What about flavors- natural or artificially added?
4. Other Parameters
We also checked the price, packaging, and shelf life of these flavored sunflower seeds.
Tong Garden Sunflower Seeds – Detailed Review
We ordered all variants of sunflower seeds for our review and the following section details our experience with each of them.
1. Salted
Price & Packaging
A 30-gram pack is priced at Rs 30/- and has a shelf life of 15 months. The seeds are packed in a non-resealable pack. This plastic is much thicker than other wrappers that are used to pack edible items. One pack holds one serving.
Main Ingredients
Sunflower kernels, refined wheat flour (maida), sugar, soy sauce, packaging gas (nitrogen E 941).
A 30-gram serve offers 160 Kcal.
Taste & Texture
The seeds are large-sized and have a nutty, beige appearance. The seeds had a supreme crunch and crispiness that made them an interesting snack option. The bite was firm but tender. There was no oiliness on the palate or fingers.
Taste-wise, the salt levels were well-rounded, no complaints here. Moreover, the naturally nutty flavor of sunflower seeds made its presence felt. All in all, this was addictive. We liked how there was no stale/rancid aroma or taste.
The refined flour coating was the only drawback. Though it added a crunch to the bite, the use of refined flour alters the nutrition quotient.
- Good quality packaging.
- The flavor was well-rounded.
- We liked the fresh, crisp seeds.
- Economically priced.
- These have a refined flour coating.
As a bar snack or something to add a crunch over your bowl of oatmeal or upma, Tong Garden Sunflower seeds are worth a try.
2. Honey
Price & Packaging
The price and packaging are similar to the above variant.
Main Ingredients
Sunflower kernels, honey, wheat flour, iodized salt, packaging gas (nitrogen E 941). This also contains permitted artificial flavor- honey.
A 30-gram serving offers 180 Kcal.
Taste & Texture
The size and overall appearance (color) was quite similar to the salted variant. We were delighted to see that these ‘honey’ seeds weren’t sticky or greasy. They weren’t stuck to each other and had a bold crunch. Spot on!
Taste-wise, this was a combination of the natural nutty flavor with a prominent sweetness and a mild saltiness.
- The price and packaging are apt.
- This variant uses wheat flour for coating.
- The flavors were well-balanced.
Craving something sweet and salty? With good fats and proteins? Look no further Tong Garden Sunflower seeds in Honey are the fix.
3. Barbeque
Price & Packaging
A 30-gram pack is priced at Rs 30 in a good-quality wrapper that features some attractive graphics.
Main Ingredients
Sunflower kernels, refined wheat flour (maida), sugar, seasoning (contains chilli, dried green onion), iodized salt, acidity regulator (citric acid INS 330), packaging gas (nitrogen E 941).
This also contains permitted natural colors (beta carotenes (INS 160 A (I)).
Taste & Texture
Though the size was similar to the previous two variants, the BBQ variant had a deep amber appearance. Texture-wise, this was a little less crisp than Salted and Honey. That said, it was not soggy, just that the crunch was not as prominent. The flavor profile was quite interesting. The salt was well-rounded, not too much or too little. The spice kick was present but on the lower side, paired with subtle sweetness and tang. These were slightly stale.
