Mishry Rating
Summary
The Better Flour Pancake mix is a healthier alternative to those made with refined ingredients. These resulted in light and fluffy pancakes which tasted delicious. As indicated by the ratings, we prefer the Banana one to the Chocolate.
‘That’s unhealthy, that lacks nutrients’- ever looked at a stack of cloud-fluffy pancakes and said this to yourself? If yes, you’re not alone. Pancakes are typically full of refined flour and refined sugar.
With increased awareness and mindful consumption, both consumers and manufacturers are taking conscious steps towards better health. Focusing on this, The Better Flour launched pancake mixes following their range of attas. For our The Better Flour Pancake mix review, we ordered two variants- Banana and Chocolate. Here’s all you need to know.
Which variant did we like better?
Our Review Factors
Taste, texture, and the nutritional values were the three key parameters of our The Better Flour Pancake mix review. We have also shared our observations and experience in terms of overall convenience and product quality.
1. Taste
Do the pancake mixes taste fresh? How well do they capture the flavor of ingredients like banana and chocolate? Is the absence of flour pronounced by the flavor profile? What about the sweetness, is it balanced? Do the mixes offer the liberty of adding toppings, or would it demote the flavor?
2. Texture
Since these are devoid of refined flour (gluten source), do the pancakes have the same fluffiness? Are they soft? Do they retain the texture once cooled down?
3. Nutrition Quotient
We compared the macronutrient and micronutrient profile of these pancake mixes with regular, refined wheat pancakes. How different are they? Is the calorie count massively varied too?
The quality of ingredients was also noted.
4. Non-Tasting Parameters
The appearance, price, packaging, shelf life, and more was recorded here.
The Better Flour Pancake Mix Flavours – Detailed Review
We tested both the pancake mixes as per the instructions given on the pack:
- In a mixing bowl, we took a cup of pancake mix (which is the entire pack). To this we added 1 ½ Tbsp of melted butter. The pack gives you a choice between adding ½ cup milk or ½ cup water or 1 egg. We added regular milk to make the batter.
- The batter is not too flowy.
- After whisking it well, we kept it aside for 20-30 minutes.
- After this period, it developed a yeast-like appearance and a thick consistency. We simply added a splash of milk, mixed well, and it was back to a thick but flowy consistency.
- Pour batter onto the hot, greased pan.
- We covered and cooked the pancake on low-medium heat. Once done, we tried these with and without honey.
Our experience with both variants of The Better Flour Pancake Mix has been detailed in the following section.
1. Banana Pancake Mix
Our Experience
The cooked pancakes were not chewy or dry. They had a desirable fluffiness with a soft bite. Big thumbs up, considering this is a gluten-free mix.
The flavors were equally appetizing. With a well-balanced sweetness, these pancakes had a delicate taste of the grains, pulses, and legumes peeking through. The sweetness was slightly fruity (from bananas) and floral from vanilla and stevia. Because it was not too prominent, the mix leaves room for adding toppings of choice (sweet, tarty- they will pair well).

Mishry says
Although the calories in refined wheat flour pancakes are lower, they will spike sugar levels and insulin abruptly and cause an energy crash too. The Better Flour pancakes are made with low-GI, high-fiber ingredients that provide sustained energy for long hours, making it the better choice.
To add to that, these taste delicious and the light, airy texture helps.
- Clean ingredients
- Balanced sweetness
- Easy to prepare
- Soft and fluffy
- High quality ingredients used
From convenient breakfast to healthier snacks, we recommend The Better Flour pancake mix if you’re looking to eliminate refined flour from your diet.
2. Chocolate Pancake Mix
Our Experience
Unfortunately, unlike our experience with the first variant, the taste was below average here. The flavor of chocolate is not as accentuated nor too pleasant . The sweetness, like the Banana variant, was mild. Towards the end of the bite, we could taste a subtle bitterness too. The sweetness coming from stevia was too prominent and did not taste great.
The batter-making and cooking were similar to the above variant.
Although these are light and fluffy, the mouthfeel is much coarser and slightly gritty which lowers the overall average.
