Summary

Effortless spreadability and delicious to taste. The balance of peanut butter and sweet jelly is appreciated in this innovative product by Sundrop.

Peanut butter and jelly are to the West, what pohas and upmas are to us. A breakfast staple that will never lose its lustre.

Although peanut butter has become vastly popular in India over the last decade, the combination with jelly isn’t something that we accepted and tried wholeheartedly. With Sundrop being one of the first few brands in India to introduce this classic combo in a single jar, how could we not give it a try.

We tried the Sundrop Peanut Butter With Jelly in our review lab and found this to be a delightful innovation. More details in our Sundrop Peanut Butter with Jelly review.

The following parameters were set to review Sundrop Peanut Butter With Jelly –

1. Taste

Individually and as a whole – how tasty is this peanut butter and jelly? Sweetness levels, flavor of peanuts and the fruit were all checked during this review.

Did you know that grape jelly is the most commonly used jelly flavor in the US?

2. Texture

Is the peanut butter smooth and creamy, like it should be or is it lumpy? Is the jelly soft and scoopable? Does it mix well with peanut butter?

What is the difference between jams and jellies? A jelly is made with strained fruit and often clearer than a fruit jam which is made using mashed fruits. Jams can have chunks of fruit in between.

How easy is the PBJ to spread on a slice of bread?

This is a fun-filled spread and doesn’t call itself healthy. So that wasn’t our priority. We checked for ingredients to see if this has actual fruit, its sugar sources, use of artificial flavors, preservatives, and the content of peanuts.

Sundrop Peanut Butter with Jelly  – Detailed Review

Price and packaging – A 340 gram jar is priced at Rs 150/-. It comes in a clear glass jar where you can see the different segments of peanut butter and jelly. The jar has a wide mouth which makes scoping the PB&J easy. The lid has a checkered pattern which gives this a very American picnic vibe.

The ingredients include roasted peanuts, sugar, liquid glucose, water, red grape juice concentrate, stabilizer, thickener (pectin), peanut oil, salt, citric acid. It also contains potassium sorbate which is a preservative.

How did we try this? Apart from tasting this as is, we also tasted this on a slice of bread. This helped us check for spreadability.

Taste and texture – First things first, the spreadability is amazing. The peanut butter isn’t too thick or flowy, just perfect for that smooth and effortless spreadability.

The peanut butter is smooth and creamy. The flavor of roasted peanuts is excellent. The dark purple jelly doesn’t taste very grape-like, but is fruity sweet.

Usually peanut butters are sweetened and so are jellies. Together they can make the sweetness overbearing, but that wasn’t the case here. The peanut butter by itself is not sweet. So when we combine it with the jelly, it makes for a balanced treat. The mild saltiness combined with the sweetness of the jelly balances the entire flavor.

All in all, full marks for innovation and creating that balance of sweet jelly and smooth peanut butter.
