When we review instant chutneys, we aren’t looking for something that is going to be exactly like a homemade version, let’s get real – it’s hard to achieve. But flavors that come close to the fresh version, are something that helps the product achieve a better rating.

Main Ingredients 

The chutney powder is made using – Urad dal, Dry coconut, Fried dal, Groundnut, Green chilli, Mustard, Curry leaves, Oil and Salt.

How did we test this?

We made 50 grams of chutney with 50 ml of water, but it seemed too dry so we added 40 ml more gradually. After keeping it aside for a few minutes, we noticed that the chutney had absorbed all the water and we needed some more to loosen it up a bit. 

Note: Add water gradually and make sure you leave it for a few minutes before eating as the coconut absorbs the water and pumps up and dries out. Adjust the water quantity if needed.

We tried the chutney with some dosas, as shown in the pictures below. 

Aroma + Appearance 

The chutney powder is off white-yellow in color. There are no clumps and we can spot a lot of curry leaves, dal bits and mustard seeds.

The aroma is primarily of coconuts followed by curry leaves.

Taste + Texture 

While the texture offers a delightful crunch from mustard seeds and lentils, the star of the show is the coconut flavor. It’s quite prominent, so fans of coconut chutneys will rejoice. However, those who prefer a more balanced flavor profile might find it a touch overpowering.

The mix is well-seasoned, with a subtle spice level that adds a gentle kick. Overall, it’s a tasty and convenient option, but be prepared for a coconut-forward flavor experience.
