Quick Recipes with Orange and Mosambi

Oranges and Mosambi fruits are loaded with Vitamin C.  These fruits are used for detoxification and are a great immunity booster. Here are some recipes or ways in which you can use the fruit.

Certain points to keep in mind when preparing recipes with Mosambi and Orange especially the infused water. Wash and scrub the fruit and veggies well before making the infused water. Gently remove the mosambi and orange seeds while cutting it as it may turn the water bitter. When making the rind, do not use the white part of the fruit as it is bitter and will spoil your dish.

C-rich Tangy Sweet Salsa Recipe Using Sweet Lime Rind

Ingredients

  • Sweet lime – 2 
  • Orange – 1 
  • Kinu – 1 
  • Pomegranate kernels – 1/4th cup 
  • Green grapes – thinly sliced
  • Dressing – 
  • Sweet lime rind – ½ tbsp
  • Fresh coriander – ½ tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp 
  • Lemon juice – ½ tbsp
  • Sweet lime juice – 1 tbsp
  • Kinu juice – 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies – 2 finely chopped
  • Nagin sauce – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method 

  • Deseed, remove pith , cut into segments and then chop the sweet lime, orange and kinu.
  • Mix all the ingredients listed below the dressing.
  • Keep it aside in the fridge till required to be used.
  • In a serving plate, arrange all the mosambi, orange and kinu slices.
  • Scatter over green grapes thinly sliced.
  • Scatter the pomegranate kernels over it.
  • Drizzle the dressing over the fruits.
  • Serve immediately.

Serving Suggestion 

  • Weight watchers can have it as one of the meals for the day.
  • This salad is good to build up immunity.
  • For a splash of colors fruits like black grapes and kiwi can also be added.
  • Do not prepare the salad and keep it as juices can turn bitter.
  • Best had when freshly prepared.
  • Nutrition dense salad can also be served as an accompaniment to the main meal.

Recipe -2 Infused Water Recipes Using Sweet Lime

Method

  • In a litre of water, put all the ingredients mentioned which will make infused water.
  • Keep the prepared infused water  refrigerated for the whole night.
  • Bring at room temperature when you  start drinking it.
  • Keep sipping this flavourful, C rich beverage. 
  • Use the sweet lime, cucumber with the peel. Muskmelons would be peeled and used.

  • Sweet Lime – 2 – Cut into wedges 
  • Basil leaves – 6 to 8
  • Cucumber  – 1 small cut into thin roundels with the peel.
  • Water – 1 litre
  • Way 2:

  • Watermelon – about 4 to 5 pcs cut lengthwise
  • Way 3:
  • Sweet Lime – 2 – cut into thin slices
  • Mint Leaves – a bunch

  • Strawberries sliced thinly – 5 to 6

  • Sweet Lime – 2 
  • Chia Seeds – 1 to 2 tablespoons
  • Way 6:

  • Musk melon cut lengthwise – 3 to 4 

Recipe -3 Orange Salad

Ingredients

  • Segments of one orange sliced thinly.
  • Mint – 5 to 6 leaves
  • Apple sliced – 1
  • Sunflower seeds – 1 tbsp, pumpkin seeds (green) – 1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tsp, honey 1 tsp and crushed black pepper – 1 to 2 tsp 

Method 

  • In a large white plate arrange the orange segments and apple slices alternating.
  • Scatter mint leaves over it.
  • For the crunch, scatter the sunflower seeds and the pumpkin seeds.
  • Mix lemon juice, honey and black pepper.
  • Drizzle this mix over the prepared fruits and seeds.

Serving Suggestion

  • As a side dish to the main meal.
  • As a starter for a three course dinner.
  • As one of the main meals for weight watchers.
  • Remove the seeds of the orange while cutting as the seeds may turn a good experience into bitter. Use hard oranges to get the perfect cut.

Recipe – 5 Orange and Beetroot Salad

Ingredients  

  • Orange segments/pith removed – 10 to 12
  • Beetroot – boiled, cooled and cut into cubes -1 no
  • Dressing – orange juice 1 tbsp, lemon juice 1 tsp, salt and pepper to taste

Method  

  • In a bowl mix beetroot and oranges.
  • Prepare dressing ingredients together.
  • Drizzle over prepared orange and beetroot.

Serving Suggestion 

  • Good for people having iron deficiency as Vitamin C will help absorbing iron from beetroot.
  • Could be had as one of the main meals.
  • Can be served as an accompaniment for the main meals.

As we can see mosambi and orange can be put to culinary use in a lot of ways. The orange rind can be added to a normal vanilla cake batter as a taste enhancer. Orange goes well with chocolate and is a great combination for baking. Mosambi is a versatile and not expensive fruit. Try to make maximum use of it as it is loaded with Vitamin C which would help in building up immunity.
