Our Review Factors

What were we looking for in Prasuma Vegetable Spring rolls?

A crisp, flaky exterior with a well-flavored filling, a wholesome bite, overall freshness and convenience is what we looked for.

1. Taste

Do the veggies taste fresh? What about the black mushrooms? Did they bring the natural smokiness they’re renowned for? Was the stuffing seasoned well? Do the ingredients work in sync, or was it too overwhelming for the palette?

Do the flavors of the spring roll pair well with the dip accompanied?

2. Texture

Spring rolls must have a thin, flaky crust that is crispy. Was the stuffing well-cooked? Were the noodles boiled well? What about veggies, were they softened or raw?

We also gauged the ratio of crust to filling.

3. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, instructions, and other non-tasting parameters were put to test here.

How we made them

The pack lists three cooking alternatives- air fry, deep fry, and steam.

We deep-fried a batch for our review.

Once the oil was hot enough, we added the spring rolls and reduced the flame to low. The spring rolls were fried for 5-6 minutes, until they achieved an inviting golden brown appearance.

We served these hot with the Thai Sweet Chilli sauce it came with.

These developed a lovely golden-brown crust.

Taste & Texture

The outer crust was flaky and crispy. It fried uniformly within the specified time frame. The quantity of the filling is quite generous, there were no empty pockets of dough.

The shredded carrots and cabbage lent a chewy, fibrous bite, and the mushrooms and glass noodles imparted a springy bite.

Taste-wise, we quite liked it as it wasn’t dominant on cabbage which can be the case with most frozen spring rolls. The seasoning was well-rounded with a medium level of spice. The black mushrooms added an earthy but complex flavor and the veggies were fresh. The stuffing also had a subtle garlic warmth but the lemon grass flavor was lacking.

THE DIPPING SAUCE! We loved the flavors this added. It was sweet and salty with a hint of chilli. This complimented the spiciness of the spring rolls beautifully. A note of appreciation for Prasuma for adding a complimenting sauce to the bag and not going with the same old momo-sauce.
