Summary

Paper Boat Zero Sugar Jamun Fruit Juice is low carbohydrate and low calorie beverage that tastes like the fruit with a desirable hit of black salt.

Jamun is known to be one of the most ‘fruitful’ fruits for those with diabetes. That’s because the seeds have hypoglycemic effects that are known to control blood sugar levels.

After reviewing three variants from their Zero Sugar Sparkling Water range, we decided to test another variant from the Zero Sugar Juice range. In this Paper Boat Jamun Fruit Juice review, we shed light on the nutrition profile, the ingredients used, its taste and consistency, and whether or not you should try it.

Did you know Jamun is known as the Indian Blackberry?

What were we expecting from Paper Boat Jamun Juice?

A clean ingredient list, a fresh and naturally astringent taste, and economic value were the primary parameters of our review.

Jamun is relished for the subtly sweet, tarty, astringent flavors. Did this packaged juice capture the essence?

Did it feel artificially sweetened? What did our panel of reviewers have to say?

2. Consistency

Thin and flowy or fibrous and pulpy, what was the consistency like when we poured the beverage into a glass?

3. Nutrition Quotient

4. Other Parameters

Paper Boat Jamun Juice – Detailed Review

This section talks about our experience with Paper Boat Jamun Juice.

Price & Packaging

This juice was packed in Paper Boat’s classic pouch pack with a reclosable lid. A 200-ml pouch is priced at Rs 55/- and has a shelf life of six months.

Main Ingredients

Water, Jamun Pulp (25%), Erythritol, Iodized Salt, Lemon Concentrate (0.4%), Flavors (Natural and Nature Identical), Stabilizers (Carboxymethyl cellulose and Guar Gum), Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid), Sweetener (Sucralose) and Black Salt.

This is equivalent to 28% fruit juice content. (Jamun and lemon)

Erythritol

This is a low-calorie sweetener that is derived from corn after fermenting it using enzymes. It is 60-80% sweet as sugar, without the calories.

Lemon Concentrate

Lemon concentrate is nothing but lemon juice that is processed. This processing eliminates the water content, resulting in a powder form of the juice.

Carboxymethyl Cellulose

Popularly known as CMC, carboxymethyl cellulose is commonly used as a thickener in fruit juices as a form of sodium. It also doubles as a preservative.

Guar Gum

Primarily used to increase the fiber content, guar gum is used as a stabilizer, thickener, and emulsifier.

Sucralose

Sucralose is another artificial sweetener used in this juice. It is digested by the body and is therefore, non-caloric.

Is Paper Boat Zero Sugar Jamun Fruit Juice truly diabetic-friendly?

Per 100 ml, (half pouch) this juice offers only 13.6 Kcal which is divided as 3.4 grams of carbohydrates (2.6 grams of which are natural fruit sugars).

Other fruit juices- 54 Kcal with 13 grams of carbohydrates (9 grams sugar), 0.2 grams of protein.

Aerated beverages-  44 Kcal, 11 grams of carbohydrates.

Those with diabetes need to manage their macronutrients well in order to prevent blood sugar spikes. Paper Boat Zero Sugar Jamun Fruit Juice is low in carbohydrate and sugar content and can be consumed in moderation. This is still a packaged fruit juice and is not recommended for regular use.

A pretty mauve appearance.

Taste & Consistency

This has an inviting mauve appearance. The juice is not pulp-like thick, it has a drinkable, pourable consistency. The aroma was that of fresh jamuns, and not industrial or synthetic. Thumbs up.

As for taste, it was a blend of desirable sour and astringent flavors with a mild sweetness. We could also taste some savory and sulphur-like flavor from the addition of black salt. The lemon juice concentrate added a tang that tied all flavors together.

We really liked the flavor of salt and lemon because that’s how jamuns are usually eaten in India.

It had a natural aroma and a drinkable consistency.
Taste- 4/5
Value For Money- 4/5
  • The packaging is travel-friendly.
  • This is a value for money pick.
  • The nutrition quotient was fairly impressive.
  • This is a low-carb, low-calorie beverage.
