Our Review Factors
What are we looking for? We were looking for a bold flavor profile with a desirable texture of the noodles. Convenience and ease of preparation would be an added bonus.
The following section explains our parameters in brief.
1. Taste
We expected to find the classic, desi flavors with a bolder spice kick. The Maggi tastemaker has an innate flavor that comprises savory, spicy, a garlicky warmth, with a mild but noticeable sweetness right towards the end.
Ideally, this should sway from typical Indianised masalas to a more Oriental flavor profile with the combination of chilli and garlic. The robustness and balance of these elements is what we gauged.
2. Texture
Long, non-sticky noodles are what we were looking for. As for the tastemaker, it should ideally be free of lumps and mix in seamlessly while cooking/boiling. Do the noodles cook well in the mentioned time frame?
3. Other Parameters
The price, packaging, shelf life, and overall convenience have been rated as well.

Spicy Garlic Maggi – Detailed Review
Price + Packaging
The noodle cake and tastemaker sachet are packed in the standard yellow pack as Maggi usually comes in. There are four noodle cakes and tastemaker sachets inside. A pack with 248 grams is priced at Rs 80/- with a shelf life of nine months.
Main Ingredients
The ingredients for the noodle cake and tastemaker are listed below.
Noodles: Refined wheat flour (Maida), Palm oil, Iodised salt, Wheat gluten, Thickeners (508 and 412), Acidity regulators (501 (i), and 500 (i)) and Humectant (451 (i))
Masala *Tastemaker* – Mixed spices (55.7% – Garlic powder (36.4%), Red chili flakes, Onion powder, Spice extract blend, Curry spice extract blend, Star anise powder, Rosemary extract and capsicum extract), Sugar, Iodised salt, Thickener (508), Flavor enhancer (635), Palm oil, Starch and Acidity regulator (330).
Aroma + Appearance
The noodles were long, thin, and a light beige, like usual. The tastemaker had a deep red-orange hue. This was a fine powder with a noticeable aroma of garlic and spice.
Taste + Texture
The noodles were thin, long, and unbroken. They developed a soft yet firm, well-cooked bite in around 5 minutes. While cooking, the aroma of the tastemaker retained the same intensity. As claimed, this did have a robust, yet balanced flavor of chilli and garlic.
It wasn’t spicy to the point that you cannot have more than a few bites, but the heat was prominent and pleasing. Asian flavors, those similar to street style Chinese dishes found in India could be tasted here. Garlic had a bold presence that we appreciated.
Pros
- Claims fulfilled
- Pleasing spice level
- Classic flavors retained
- Time-efficient cooking
- Texture was commendable
