SUPERB!

Summary

The delicate flavor of saunf, gritty mouthfeel, fresh taste and balanced sweetness, these cookies are delicious. The clean ingredient list and the nutritional values are impressive too.

‘Whole wheat’ bread is made with over 50% refined wheat flour. ‘Fruit’ juices barely have 3% fruit content. The products that are true to claims are very very rare.

Biscuits have a bad rap for being loaded with sugars, carb-heavy and what not. Our team of researchers, however, found a genuinely good-for-you tea-time snack. Made with clean ingredients and featuring a balanced macro-distribution, here is our Kikibix Jaggery Cookies review.

Our Review Factors

What are we looking for? We are looking for fibrous cookies with jaggery’s caramelly sweetness and a clean ingredient list.

The following are the review parameters set for Kikibix’s Jaggery Cookies :

1. Taste

In this segment, we examine the sweetness and the overall flavor of the cookies. These cookies are made from whole grain flour blends (Chana sattu flour and oats flour). Considering this fact, how is the mouthfeel of these cookies?

We checked for balance of sweetness, freshness, flavor of jaggery and the flours used.

2. Texture

We checked for the crunch, mouthfeel and how light or dense the bite is.

3. Nutri-Label

Here we closely check the list of ingredients, calories, and macronutrient distribution. What is the primary source of fat used? How are these sweetened?

Are these cookies truly devoid of maida, atta and added refined sugar? If yes, how well are these claims backed up?

4. Other Parameters

The non-tasting parameters including – price, packaging and shelf life were also recorded.

Price + Packaging

These cookies come in a rust and brown box package. The cookies are placed in individual packs within the box. Each packet contains two cookies.

A 130 gm pack is priced at Rs. 249. The shelf life is four months from the date of manufacturing.

Main Ingredients

The main ingredients are the following :

Whole grain flour blend (Chana sattu flour, oats flour), Jaggery, Butter, Ghee, Almonds, Water, Milk, White sesame, Baking powder, Baking soda (INS500(ii)), Saunf, and Himalayan pink salt.

A good thing here is that the brand has clearly mentioned the use of different flours. It is free from refined wheat flours, sweeteners like sugar, invert syrup and liquid glucose.

We appreciate the detailed and clean ingredient list.

Nutrition Label

The nutritional values per two of these whole grain cookies are :Energy : 41.8 kcal, Fat : 2.2 gms, Carbs : 4.84 gms, Protein : 1.21 gm, and Total Sugars : 1.65 gm. On the other hand, a regular nut cookie (2 pieces) provides 65 gm of energy, 3 gm of fat, 10 gm of carbs and similar amount of protein.

Looking at the nutrition numbers between the two, these cookies by Kikibix seem to be cleaner and better.

Aroma + Appearance

These are round shaped cookies with a dark brown hue. The white sesame seeds on top seem well-toasted. The aroma of jaggery and saunf is dominant in these cookies. It feels reminiscent of the winters in Delhi.

Taste + Texture

Because of the numerous blends of flour used, the overall mouthfeel of these cookies is grainy. The sweetness is perfectly balanced, and there is no overpowering jaggery flavor. Infact the caramelly sweetness in combination with the delicateness of saunf is pleasing.

Texture-wise, it is crunchy but it does have a slightly dense bite. The noticeable crunch from the sesame and almonds enhances the texture even further.

When compared to regular maida cookies, these were harder to bite. This is not a con, but rather an observation we came across while reviewing.

We loved the delicate flavor of saunf here.
