Our Review Factors

We were looking for pleasing flavors and crunch in Kellogg’s Chocos Moons and Stars. Brief explanation on the key parameters explained in this section.

1. Taste

We were looking for a balance between sweetness and the flavor of chocolate. Was the cocoa flavor too pronounced? Were these moon and star-shaped snacks overpoweringly sweet?

2. Texture

Fresh and crunchy or soggy? Was the bite light and crisp, or did these snacks have a pertinent greasiness and heaviness?

When added to milk, is the crunchy bite retained? If yes, for how long?

3. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, ingredients, and shelf life have also been discussed in the following section where we detail our experience.

How did we review this?

First we assessed the Chocos Moons and Stars visually. Then we tasted them as it, followed by letting some soak in milk. Stages two and three helped us gauge the flavors and textures under two different lights.

These were single-serve, non-resealable packs.

Aroma + Appearance

Considering the target audience (young kids), the appearance was a big thumbs up. The moon and star shapes are very well defined. There were barely any cracked or broken pieces. These had a chocolate brown hue with a pleasing sweet aroma.

Taste + Texture

Straight out of the pack, the Chocos had a bold crunch. These weren’t wafer thin, they were relatively thicker. When added to a bowl of milk, these turned mildly soft and had a mildly lighter crunch. Not only a desirable texture, but they altered the color of the milk, adding a subtle chocolate flavor.

As for flavors, these taste like regular Chocos shells with a malty flavor. Moons and Stars struck a nice balance between sweetness and the chocolate flavor, that only becomes better with milk. We give this the green light for its freshness.

That being said, though this isn’t marketed as a healthy product, here’s our take on the nutrition values.

It has 7.2 grams of sugar in a 24-gram serve and uses high GI flours like refined wheat flour. Therefore, occasional consumption is strongly recommended.

Well-defined, clear shapes.
These retained the crunch a few minutes after being soaked in milk.
