Our Review Factors
What were the parameters we set while reviewing Fearless Bombay Masala Tea? Factors like flavor, aroma, and appearance can make or break your tea-sipping time. Hence, these were our primary focus.
1. Flavors
CTC chai is loved for its rich, slightly bitter flavor. How were these tea leaves, overall? Astringent, floral, or grassy?
A commendable aspect of this mode of preparation is the consistency in flavor that it retains.
Does this tea have a robust flavor? Did it taste fresh? What about the flavoring agents (spices)? Have additives been used or are the flavors brought about naturally?
2. Aroma
In the dry stage, when brewing, and while sipping- we gauged the aroma in three phases.
Does it vary? Which was the most prominent ingredient? How pronounced is the aroma of the spices added?
3. Other Parameters
Here we noted all the non-tasting parameters like price, packaging, shelf life, and others.
Fearless Kadak Masala Chai patti – Detailed Review
Before we dive into the review, here is all you need to know about CTC tea.
CTC is a method of processing black tea. Invented by Sir William McKercher in the 1930s, this is known as ‘crust, tear, curl’ or ‘cut, tear, curl’ sometimes.
In essence, black tea leaves are run through cylindrical rollers that have several sharp tea. They crush, tear, and curl the tea leaves which makes them into small, hard pellets. Tea made using CTC leaves is called as mamri tea.
Did you know? CTC tea is the most widely consumed tea in the world.
Price + Packaging
These tea leaves are packed in a red shiny carton that has inviting graphics of tea. It holds 250 grams of the product and is priced at Rs 170/- It has a shelf life of eleven months.
Main Ingredients
This is made with tea, ginger, lemongrass, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and natural flavor.
How did we brew this?
We boiled some tea leaves in water. This was tasted without milk (black) and with milk + sugar. We did not add any spices on our own.
Aroma + Appearance
In the dry stage, we could see specs of dried ginger in the tea leaves. This had a mild, but noticeable, fragrance of lemongrass and cardamom.
We added ½ tablespoon of the tea leaves for one cup of chai. Black, this had a clear golden-red tone, like tea usually does and when we added milk, it developed that beautiful brown color, just like a cup of homestyle chai.
Taste
In a word- these tea leaves make a kadak chai. It was most dominant on the warmth of cloves. We also noticed a mild flavor of cardamom, lingering in the background.
That said, we could not really make out the other spices like nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon.
However, these tea leaves have a fresh, bold, and desirable flavor that doesn’t have masala overpowering the beverage.
This is one of those pleasing, kadak masala chais you sip on while looking out the window on a rainy afternoon.
Pros
- Most dominant on clove
- Yields cups of KADAK chai
- Convenient preparation i.e eliminates the need to add a chai masala separately
Cons
- Spices other than clove and cardamom were not really tasted
Best Suited For
This pack of tea leaves is ideal for those who don’t prefer adding spices or flavoring agents separately.
