SUPERB!

Summary

These Mishry Ratings are for the ITC Masterchef Kitchens of India Awadhi Badam Halwa. While the Nawabi Kaju Halwa was not very impressive, the badam halwa had a nice dominant flavor of almonds nd ghee. The best part about the halwas is that they contain zero preservatives, so you can enjoy it whenever you feel like having halwa!

For some, a winter wonderland includes a mug of hot chocolate or a warm apple cider. But, for us Indians it means a piping hot bowl of halwa. And these winter delights come in so many varieties! From the evergreen gajar ka halwa, to the more decadent kaju/badam ka halwa, and of course the soul-satisfying atte ka halwa! Just the thought of these on a cold winter evening can be so warming!

While nothing comes close to homemade wholesome flavors, packaged halwas can be a boon when you suddenly crave some and do not want to get into the laborious task of making some from scratch. ITC Masterchef Kitchens Of India Royal Halwas contains two types of nutty halwas that are ready to eat – Awadhi Badam Halwa and Nawabi Kaju Halwa.

We tried and tested both the halwas for their taste, texture, sweetness levels and to see if these offer value for the money spent. Here is our #FirstImpression. Can these halwas by ITC Masterchef Kitchens Of India match up to the level of our homemade flavors? Let’s find out!

Price and packaging – A 400-gram pack of the ITC Masterchef Kitchens Of India Royal Halwas contains two individually packed halwas which are 200 grams each.

Before we start telling you about individual flavor notes of the halwas, let’s discuss textures. There are two textures of halwa – one is a more granular, almost solidified kind of halwa and the other is a more runny, almost paste-like type of halwa. It is an individual choice and preference of how you like your halwa, plus the base ingredient used to make it. Like a suji halwa would be more granular while atta halwa would be much smoother.

You can heat the ITC Masterchef Kitchens Of India Royal Halwas using three methods – In a microwave, on an open flame in a pan, or by putting the pouch in boiling water. We used the microwave method to heat the halwas. The halwa was hot enough to eat in under a minute.

Close look at the Awadhi Badam Halwa post heating.

The Awadhi Badam Halwa by ITC Masterchef Kitchens Of India has lots of uniform, evenly sized chunks of badam. The almonds maintain their crunch and are tasty. Visually it has a light brown-deep mustard color and we could see a lot of ghee. Taste-wise, this is an excellent halwa. The badam flavor was spot on and was very close to what you expect from a homemade halwa. The sweetness is balanced and in every bite, you get the nutty-almond flavor.

Nawabi Kaju Halwa Review

The Nawabi Kaju Halwa is a 200-gram pack which is priced at Rs 200/-. 100 grams of this halwa provides 512 Kcal.

There are only seven ingredients in this halwa – Cashew nuts (24.5%), Refined sugar, Milk (20.1%), Ghee (14%), Almonds (12.8%), Khoya (6.0%) and green cardamom powder. There are no preservatives.

The Nawabi Kaju Halwa by ITC Masterchef Kitchens Of India was very nice to taste but lacked the distinct nutty kaju flavor. We were expecting a more flavor-packed halwa with lots of cashews but it did not deliver. It is much sweeter than the badam halwa. The Nawabi Kaju Halwa lacked the wow factor which was clearly present in the badam halwa. This is why we may avoid buying this one in the future.

Final Verdict

ITC Masterchef Royal Halwas – Nawabi Kaju Halwa and Awadhi Badam Halwa.

Like most Indian mothers, who swear by the notion that more ghee equals more taste in a halwa, ITC’s Awadhi Badam Halwa excels. The abundant ghee, balanced sweetness, and natural almond flavor are appreciable. While the Kaju Halwa was nice as well, it did not deliver on the cashew flavor and paled in comparison to the badam halwa. Both the halwas taste fresh, but the badam halwa was a bigger hit at the Mishry HQ!
