Summary

We found the flavor of ITC's well-seasoned onion rings enjoyable, and appreciated the initial crispiness of the outer crust. It is important to serve them promptly, as they have a tendency to lose their crispness rapidly.

Our Review Factors

Our Expectations? A frozen snack that tastes delicious and has a crisp texture.

We have set the following review factors to assess the frozen snack :

1. Taste

How flavorful is the onion ring? Is the filling seasoned well? Is there a masala coating? Lastly, is there any industrial aftertaste?

2. Texture

We checked for the crispiness of the onion rings, how thick is the batter and the breading, and the proportion of the coating-batter to the filling inside.

3. Additional Factors

Price, ease of preparation, ingredients and shelf life were also considered for the review.

We liked Keventer Frozen Vegetarian Cutlets for its super crisp texture.

How We Made it?

We followed the instructions on the pack and deep-fried these onion rings in vegetable oil. There was no need to thaw them, and they cooked quickly, taking less than 3 minutes to turn golden brown. One great thing about these rings is that they didn’t absorb excess oil during frying, which was a significant positive aspect.

Appearance

The size of these onion rings is not too large. They are medium in size and perfectly round. With the exception of a few pieces, the majority of the rings have maintained their shape very well.

These are covered with ample breading which is quite even throughout.

Taste + Texture

This frozen snack has a filling of chopped onions, dehydrated potato, refined flour, corn flour and dehydrated onion rather than a full onion ring as we had expected. Nonetheless, this is a tasty frozen snack. The onions have the characteristic sweet touch and have a pleasant freshness.

The breading is ample and quite prominent. There is no overpowering seasoning/masala on the breading. This allows you to pair this snack with an array of dips and sauces.

Although the initial crispness is impressive, it does not stay on for long. After a few minutes, the frozen snack turns out to be soft. There’s some room for improvement in this aspect.
