Summary

Thumbs up for Heinz Tomato Twizt sauces being free of artificial colors, preservatives, and flavors. While the Classic variant is an iconic blend of sweet and tangy flavors, the Chilli variant is quite low on spice.

Some dip fries in it, others slather some on burgers, and only the elite add dollops over their bowls of noodles- it’s ketchup we’re talking about.

Prepared with a ‘secret spice mix’, Heinz offers two new variants under its Twizt range. Our Heinz Tomato Twizt Sauces review covers all key details, our overall experience, and whether or not we recommend trying this.

Heinz Tomato Twizt Sauce – Detailed Review

Before diving into individual detailed reviews, the following are some common factors that both variants of Heinz Tomato Twizt sauces share.

Both variants are offered in pouches that have a rescrewable lid. They have an eye-catching black and red graphic and on the front, it claims to be devoid of preservatives, colors, and flavors.

1. Regular

Price & Packaging

A 100-gram pouch is priced at Rs 22/-. It has a shelf life of 12 months.

Main Ingredients

Water, tomato paste (24%), sugar, dextrose, brewed vinegar, iodized salt, thickener (INS 422, INS 415), mixed spices (0.16%), yeast extract, onion powder, garlic powder, sweetener (INS 960), capsicum, oleoresin.

Allergen information states this contains nuts, soy, sulphite, celery, and mustard.

What is oleoresin?

Oleoresin is an oil-soluble extract derived from the fruit of capsicum. It is primarily used to add color or flavor to food items.

How we tried it

We tasted the ketchup as is and with a serving of Safal frozen french fries.

This was slightly lighter than the other variant.

Taste & Consistency

This had a deep red hue with a thick but easily flowy consistency. It emitted an inviting tangy aroma and was smooth. There were no visible tomato chunks or peels, it had an even texture.

This was more sweet than tangy. The tanginess of tomatoes and vinegar was present but was not as prominent as the sweetness. We scanned the ingredient list and found that it used sugar, dextrose, and INS 960 (stevia) which may be the reason for the prominent sweetness.

On tasting the ketchup with fries, it primarily felt sweet.

Did you know? There is a science-backed reason why ketchup contains such large quantities of sugar. The sugar helps enhance the shelf life of ketchup as it extracts the moisture content from tomatoes. Additionally, vinegar also plays a role in enhancing the shelf life.

Consistency- 3/5
  • Smooth and thick consistency, no lumps.
  • Balanced salt seasoning.
  • Easy to serve.
  • Economically priced.
  • It is devoid of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
  • This is more sweet than tangy.

Sweet with a mild tangy flavor- if that’s how you like your ketchup- we’d recommend trying Heinz Tomato Twizt.

2. Chilli

Price & Packaging

The packaging is fairly similar. A 200-gram tube is priced at Rs 55/-. This variant too has a shelf life of 12 months.

Main Ingredients

Water, tomato paste (19%), dextrose, sugar, brewed vinegar, iodized salt, thickener (INS 422, INS 415), chilli powder (1.2%), mixed spices (0.2%), garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, oleoresin, ginger oloeresin, sweetener (INS 960).

How we tried it

  • Raw tasting
  • With Safal frozen fries
Here's a look at the consistency.

Taste & Consistency

The consistency was fairly similar to the first variant. It was smooth, flowy, and thick. In terms of appearance, this was comparatively two shades darker like a deep blood red hue. It also had some tiny white particles that were unidentifiable. This had a fresh and natural tomato-chili aroma.

Taste-wise, the balance of sweeteners and salt was favorable. Just like the above variant, the tanginess coming from vinegar was partially masked. We could taste some garlicky warmth. However, the spice was negligible when paired with fries.

Flavor- 3/5
Consistency- 3/5
  • Convenient packaging.
  • Remarkable consistency.
  • A decently priced condiment.
  • We like how it is devoid of preservatives, colors, or artificial flavors.
  • The spice level was quite low.
  • The tang was masked up by sweetness.

Looking for primarily sweet tomato ketchup with a mild garlicky warmth? Heinz Tomato Twizt Chilli could be a decent choice. For those looking for a bold chilli kick, this is not the one for you.
