The Diwali season in India has now truly and officially begun. From Rakhi, all the way till Holi next year, we have so many reasons to celebrate almost every week. Although this year’s celebrations have been a little low-key, Diwali continues to be one of India’s biggest celebrations, where families indulge in days of happiness and festive cheer. Gifting is also a big part of Diwali, and no one coming to your home this year for Diwali is likely to turn up ‘khaali-haath.’ There are always ladoos, barfis, chocolates, or hampers to be gifted and received.

At Mishry, we are always on the lookout for easy to gift, unusual, reasonable gifting options that you can even buy in bigger numbers. Our recommendations are authentic; as always, we experience (try/fry/taste) the products ourselves, at our review lab, before making any recommendations.

5. Ingredients

The gulab jamuns contain gluten and milk solids. The dumplings are made up of khoya and refined wheat flour. There are no preservatives, additives used in the making of this product.

6. Texture & Color

A good quality gulab jamun should have many things working for it. The dumplings should be soft on the inside, but not so much on the outside. The chenna inside should be grainy, but the texture must not be hard or coarse. And, of course, the sugar syrup should have just the right amount of sweetness.

7. Flavour

Haldirams Gulab Jamun has many things going well for itself. The dumplings are super soft without breaking off into bits inside the tin. The medium-sized dumplings are light, airy, and have been dunked into a sugar syrup that also has hints of rose water and cardamom (elaichi). The syrup is not thick and gloopy, which gives the desserts an overall feeling of lightness.

More importantly, the syrup is not overtly sugary – the one thing that can sometimes ruin the joy of eating gulab jamuns. The sweetness level is spot on. Though there are instructions on the tin on how to increase or decrease sweetness, we think you may not need to use those at all.
