Haldiram’s Spinach Pakora – Detailed Review
In this section, you will find all information, including the packaging, taste, texture, cooking process, pros, and cons of Haldiram’s Minute Khana Spinach Pakora.
Packaging, Price & Shelf Life
Haldiram’s Minute Khana Spinach Pakora has two-layer packaging. The outer layer is a carton pack.
Inside the carton pack, a blue poly pack holds the pakoras. None of them were broken, which was a plus point.
The price of a 283 gm pack is Rs. 140, and the shelf life is 18 months. Our review pack had 12 pieces of the pakora. As mentioned on the pack, a 283 gm pack is perfect for serving six people.
Main Ingredients
What did the ingredient list reveal? The following is the breakdown of the ingredient list:
Spinach 28%, Chickpea flour 26%, Onion 21%, Refined oil (cottonseed oil), and rice flour are the main ingredients here.
The seasoning ingredients include – coriander leaves, fresh garlic, green chili, salt, sugar, coriander, red chili, cumin, and turmeric.
It also has acidity regulator (citric acid E330), sodium bicarbonate (E500 ii), and asafetida among the other ingredients.
For a ready-to-eat product, the ingredient list is fairly clean.
Method Of Preparation:
According to the pack, there are two ways to prepare these spinach pakora – Deep-Fry and Oven bake. We used the deep frying method.
Here are the instructions for both:
Deep Fry:
- Heat oil to 176 degrees.
- Deep fry for about 1-2 minutes or until crisp and brown.
Oven Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 176 degrees.
- Spread spinach pakora evenly on a cookie sheet.
- Heat for 10-12 minutes or until the center of the pakora is hot.
Note: The heating time may vary depending on oven wattage and may need adjusting.
Our Observations:
Cooking Process
We followed the deep-fried method for cooking these spinach pakoras. The smaller pakoras were perfectly cooked in two minutes.
For the bigger pakoras, we advise you to lower the flame and allow them to cook for some extra time. This will ensure that the pakoras get cooked till the centre and there is no doughy centre.
During the cooking process, we observed that these pakoras soaked up some oil.
Taste & Texture
First things first, let’s talk about the taste. These pakoras are well seasoned with salt and have a mild spiciness that you get between bites if a fresh green chilli pops into your pakoda.
What we liked about these pakoras is that there is a good balance of proportion between the palak and pyaaz. It does not feel doughy at any point.
The flavor of palak is spot on, and the sweetness of the onion was noticeable too. None of the ingredients bring any overpowering taste. There is a nice balance maintained here.
These pakoras taste fresh and that’s why we couldn’t stop at one. No artificial or industrial taste was observed. Thumbs up!
These pakoras turned up pretty crisp upon deep-frying. The outer crust was crunchy which is a point of appreciation. The texture was similar as you would expect any homemade pakora to be. The different components, including the onion and coriander seeds, add a nice crunch between bites.
All in all, these spinach pakoras are remarkable in terms of taste and texture. If you wish to add a little punch of flavor, you can pair these with some homemade pudina chutney.
Pros
- These spinach pakoras are suitable for vegetarians.
- It is made from all natural ingredients and has no preservatives.
- No artificial colors have been used.
- These are pretty convenient to prepare.
- It has a very fresh taste.
- It does not feel doughy.
- Good balance of spinach and onions.
- We liked the crisp exterior.
