This Bell Pepper & Garlic Sandwich Spread by Dr. Oetker is A Must-Try

What were we looking for in Dr Oetker Sandwich Spread?

The flavor, texture, convenience, and versatility were key parameters for this review.

1. Taste

By itself, how did the spread taste? Were the flavors fresh and balanced? Could we taste all ingredients?

In terms of versatility, would this spread work in wraps, or as a sauce for pizzas?

2. Texture

The spreadability was the primary sub-parameter here. How effortlessly could we apply this over bread slices? Does the spread have a smooth texture? Or was it grainy? Were the veggies pureed or could we bite into the bits? Do the veggies add some crunch?

3. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, shelf life, ingredients, and other such parameters were gauged here. 

Price + Packaging

This spread comes in a see-through plastic jar. It holds 250 grams of the product and is priced at Rs 89/- This has a shelf life of six months. 

Main Ingredients

Water, vegetables (30%- zucchini, red bell pepper (8.1%), jalapenos, garlic (3.6%), black olives), refined soyabean oil, sugar, milk solids, emulsifiers and stabilizers (INS 1442, INS 415), iodised salt, edible starch, acidity regulators (INS 260, INS 330), mixed spices, basil, preservatives (INS 211, INS 202), nature identical flavoring substances are all the ingredients used. 

How did we test this?

We tasted the spread as it, to gauge the true flavor and texture. Then we applied it on untoasted bread slices to compare the differences in flavor and texture, if any. 

Aroma + Appearance

The spread had a yellow-orange hue and we could see tons of bits and pieces. These were of red bell peppers, zucchini bits, and jalapenos as well. 

On opening the jar, we were hit with a robust aroma of garlic. 

Taste + Texture

DELIGHTFUL! This spread added tons of flavor almost instantly. It showcased a nice balance between spice and salt. Neither of them were overpowering. The heat was from jalapenos that tasted fresh and desirable. We really liked the warmth garlic added. 

PS- on tasting it as is, the salt was just a notch higher than we’d like, however, on bread slices, it tasted fine. 

As for the texture, this was seamless. It was rich, creamy and could be easily spread over bread slices. The veggie bits are added generously and give a wonderful textural variation to an otherwise creamy spread.
