Coffeeza Aluminum Coffee Capsules Review – We Tried 4 Variants

To be honest, we are on a coffee high! For weeks we have been testing the Finero Next Coffee Machine by Coffeeza, using their premium range of pods. You see, while we reviewed the coffee machine, we also got to try out dozens of coffee pods by the same brand. Hence this separate review is dedicated just to the range of pods we tried and tasted over several weeks. 

Coffee Capsules! Such a little component yet holds such big flavors! Every coffee machine owner knows the importance of a good-quality coffee capsule. 

For the uninitiated, coffee capsules or pods are little containers that hold ground coffee and come with a protective casing made either of aluminum or plastic. These can be used in a compatible coffee machine only. These are designed for single use and have a loyal fanbase. 

Coffeeza, a relatively new entrant in the market of premium coffee products, aims to provide great-tasting, cafe-style coffee at home. We tested four variants of their newly introduced recyclable aluminium coffee capsules – Classico, Cremoso, Intenso, and Forte. Each of them has different intensity, flavor, and aroma. We used their Finero Next Coffee Machine to conduct the Coffeeza Coffee Capsules review.

To test the Coffeeza Capsules we set the following parameters – 

1. Flavor 

Unlike a bag of chips, the flavor of coffee is not as easy to judge. The type of roast, their geographical location, how the coffee is processed and brewed, composition, and type of grind determine the flavor of the coffee.

Smoothness, body/mouthfeel (light, medium, heavy), acidity, intensity, and subtle flavor notes (fruity, nutty, chocolaty) all come under the same parameter. 

Do note that the intensity of the coffee does not refer to the amount of caffeine. The degree of roasting, bitterness and body of the coffee defines the intensity. 

2. Packaging

Coffee is a sensitive ingredient that needs to be packed with care to prevent moisture from spoiling the contents of the pack, and losing out on the aroma and flavor. This is why pods or coffee capsules pack in so much flavor as they are single-serve and are not exposed to air/moisture for prolonged periods.

We also checked them for their packaging. 

3. Aroma

There’s a difference between fragrance and aroma. In the coffee world, these two terms are not to be used interchangeably. Fragrance is used for dry coffee, while aroma is used when the coffee is wet. While ground coffee has fragrance, once the espresso is made we gauge it for its aroma. 

Shelf life, price, and capsule compatibility were also supporting parameters.

To test all the Coffeeza coffee blends, we brewed them using Coffeeza Finero Next Coffee Machine. Apart from the day-to-day tastings and rigorous notes, we also organized a small coffee cupping for all the members of Team Mishry.

What is coffee cupping, you ask? To put it simply, it’s a coffee tasting where the reviewers can evaluate and compare the flavors and roast profiles of the coffee. 

We made sure that we SLURP the coffee and not sip it during this process. Coffee should be slurped because it helps give us gauge the flavor profile in a much better fashion.

This section highlights our entire review experience of each variant in detail. 

Before heading further, here are a few points to be noted: 

• The net quantity of each variant is 55 gm. 
• This 55 gm pack includes ten capsules of 5.5 gm each. 
• The pricing for all the four variants is Rs. 450. 
• These come with a shelf life of 18 months. 
• Each capsule is meant for single-use.
• Depending on your machine setting, one capsule can brew 30-40ml of Espresso and 80-100ml of lungo.
• These capsules are compatible with Nespresso Original Machine and Coffeezza.
• The main ingredients include roasted and ground coffee (for all variants).

Product Details

The Classico Coffee Capsule comes in a blue and black color box with shades of gold/brown. These capsules are blue in color. As mentioned on the pack, Classico variant has an intensity of 6.

Tasting Notes

Smells heavenly! The Classico Coffee by Coffeeza is made using 100% Arabica beans and has a well-rounded flavor. It is intense, has a smooth mouthfeel with a medium body, and a certain roasted smokiness to it. Unlike a lot of black coffee we usually have, this doesn’t feel acidic. It tastes great as an espresso or a lungo with a splash of milk as well. 

Product Details

The Cremoso variant has golden brown-coloured capsules. It comes in a brown and black color box with shades of brown/gold. It has an intensity of 8.

Tasting Notes

The Cremoso coffee is darker and definitely has more intense flavors (in comparison to Classico). The hints of citrus are evident here which makes this cup of coffee very refreshing.

The flavors are bolder and this has a smooth mouthfeel.

Product Details

These capsules come in a red and black color box and have shades of brown/gold. The color of these coffee capsules is red. The intensity level is 10.

Tasting Notes

Rich, intense and full-bodied. The Intenso coffee is genuinely intense and has distinct notes of dark chocolate (aroma and taste). Just like the others, this doesn’t feel acidic and has a smooth mouthfeel.

Product Details

Coffeeza’s Forte capsules are packed in a grey and black color box and has shades of brown/gold. These are black color capsules. This coffee capsule has an intensity of 12.

Tasting Notes

This was the most robust and definitely the darkest roast/strongest coffee blend amongst all the four coffees we tasted. Forte by Coffeeza is full-bodied and has a particular nuttiness to it that lingers in the background.

Flavours and aroma of the blends were lovely and the aluminium casing ensures the coffee stays fresh, keeping the aromas and flavours intact.

Depending on the intensity you like and the roast you prefer, all of Coffeeza’s Coffee Capsules are worth a try. You can have them as is or add milk to make a cappuccino or latte. These can also be used to make a cold brew.
