Summary

Bru Beaten Coffee mix tasted more like a sweet, milk-based beverage than coffee. Moreover, it did not develop the layer of froth, as promised.

Pheti hui coffee to us, Dalgona Coffee to South Korea. It’s sweet, milky, frothy- it’s the fancy cafe-style coffee but on a budget.

While it calls for only four ingredients, the beating process is nothing short of an arm workout. One of the well-known coffee brands in India, introduced an instant coffee saying ‘get creamy, frothy pheti hui coffee in 10 seconds’ For our Bru Beaten Coffee Mix review, we ordered the 15-serving pack and here’s how it went.

How close does this come to a homestyle, whipped coffee?

Our Review Factors

What were we looking for when reviewing Bru Beaten Coffee mix? Convenience, consistency, and flavor were the primary parameters.

1. Flavor

Whipped/beaten coffee is essentially sweet as the froth, the creamy consistency is a result of sugar reacting with water.

Did you know? Sugar enhances the viscosity of water and increases the stability of bubbles, ensuring a longer-lasting foam. Since, coffee and sugar are used in equal quantities, this has a more prominent flavor of sugar than of coffee.

We were looking for balanced sweetness and a substantial flavor of coffee.

2. Consistency

Thick, frothy, rich, and creamy- are words that best describe the appearance, consistency, and mouthfeel of beaten coffee.

How close does Bru’s instant version come to this?

3. Convenience (Delivery On The Claim)

Coffee, sugar, and water are to be whipped together until the mix lightens and develops fluffy peaks. This takes a minimum of 5-7 minutes, based on the tools used and quantity. Bru promises this in 10 seconds.

But did it deliver?

4. Other Parameters

The price, packaging, shelf life, main ingredients were checked.

Bru Beaten Coffee Mix Review – Detailed Review

Price + Packaging

There are 15 sachets inside a pack, each holding 12 grams of content. The graphics on the main pack and sachets is the same, a vibrant ocher shade with a steaming hot cup of coffee. This is priced at Rs 375/- and has a shelf life of eight months, when stored in dry conditions.

Ingredients

Sugar, Non dairy based beverage whitener (glucose syrup, Hydrogenated palm kernel oil, Milk solids, Stabiliser – E340ii, Emulsifer – E 472e), Instant coffee-chicory mixture, Thickener – E1440, Nature identical (coffee) flavoring substance

How we made the coffee

We followed the instructions exactly as mentioned on the pack. One 12-gram sachet is to be prepared with 150 ml of boiling milk. Pouring the milk from a height is emphasised on.

Pour half the quantity of milk, stir, then pour the remaining half from a height.

This was a white-brown premix.

Aroma + Appearance

One of the most noticeable points of distinction between regular coffee and whipped coffee is the thick layer of froth on top. This had no such creamy layer. It just had some bubbles, like regular instant coffee when milk is poured from a height.

It had a sweet, milky aroma.

Taste + Consistency

If you’ve had coffee at a tapri or canteen, it is primarily sweet. And so was Bru Beaten Coffee but the sweetness was slightly overwhelming. This wasn’t watery, it tasted milky too. Sadly, the complex flavors of coffee were very mild.

The consistency was just like regular coffee, it had no thick, creaminess like beaten coffee has.

There was no creamy layer of froth.
The top layer was just like regular instant coffee.

Mishry does not recommend Bru Beaten Coffee mix. Not only did it not deliver on the 10-second froth promise, but it tastes too sweet and is priced quite steeply, considering the ingredients and flavor.
