Britannia Gobbles Marble Cakes Take You Back To The 90’s

Marble cake, also known as Marmor, looks fancy with its swirls but the flavors are classic goodness.

Over the years, we have reviewed quite a few bakery items by Britannia like their Gobbles, Nut & Raisin cakes and had delightful experiences. Britannia added new variants to its Gobbles range which we cover in this Britannia Gobbles Marble Cake review.

Since these cakes would be relished as snacks, we set taste and texture as the key parameters for our Britannia Gobbles cake review. The freshness, sweetness, aftertaste, softness, and mouthfeel were taken into account.

1. Taste

‘Red Velvet’ and ‘Choco-Vanilla’ are classic flavors that packaged cake variants can go wrong with. Did these cakes replicate the innate flavors? What about sweetness, was it balanced? For the bi-flavor variant, did both shine equally?

Packaged cakes that contain eggs can end up tasting and smelling very eggy, and may ruin the overall experience. We checked both variants for this as well.

2. Texture

Were the cakes light, soft and spongy? Or did they have a heavy, dense bite? 

Would these pair well with a warm beverage?

Price + Packaging

The cake slices are stacked neatly in a plastic tray. The tray is covered with a glossy ruby pack. This holds 110 grams and is priced at Rs 30/- with a four-month shelf life.

Refined wheat flour, sugar, eggs, refined vegetable fat (interestified vegetable fat), sesame oil, emulsifier (INS 481), antioxidant (INS 319), vitamin A, humectants (422, 422 (II)), refined palmolein oil, high maltose syrup, liquid glucose, edible maize starch, cake gel (emulsifiers and stabilizers 471 & 477), and humectant (420 II), raising agents (341 I, 500 II, 450 I), cake mix (colors 162, emulsifier 471), iodised salt, invert sugar syrup, nature identical and artificial vanilla and cheese flavoring substances, cocoa solids (0.3%), preservatives (202, 200, 282) baking powder, acidity regulator (330), stabilizer (415), colors (129, 122, 124) are the ingredients used.

Aroma + Appearance 

The cake is sliced into thick slices that are rectangular in shape. We could see a mix of red and white swirls, similar to the graphics on the pack. One tray held 12 slices. These had a prominent floral, sweet aroma like vanilla. 

Taste + Texture

The cake slices were soft and spongy, but when we bit into them, they weren’t too light nor too dense. The bite was somewhere in the middle, like most packaged cakes, and we’re not complaining. 

As for the taste, it was quite addictive and slightly resembled to the red velvet flavor of mild cocoa laced with a some tarty flavor. Even the sweet creamy flavor of the cream cheese frosting could be tasted. The overall sweetness is balanced, just like the flavor of vanilla.

Price + Packaging

The price, packaging, and shelf life are similar to the above variant. The key difference is that this comes in a glossy purple pack.

Refined wheat flour (maida), sugar, eggs, refined vegetable fat (interestified vegetable fat, sesame oil, emulsifier (INS 471), antioxidant (INS 319), vitamin A, humectants (422, 420 (II)), refined palmolein oil, high maltose syrup, liquid glucose, cocoa solids (1%), colors (150 c and 150 d), nature identical and artificial vanilla flavoring substances, raising agents (341 I, 500 II & 450 II), cake gel (emulsifiers and stabilizers 471 & 477), and humectant (420 II), cake mix (colors 162, emulsifier 471), iodised salt, invert sugar syrup, preservatives (202, 200, & 282), baking powder, acidity regulator (330), stabilizer (415) are the ingredients used.

Aroma + Appearance 

A thin loaf is sliced into rectangular pieces, with a thickness of 1.5 cm on average. These have brown and white swirls that look very appetizing. These had 13 pieces. The aroma was an inviting mix of chocolate and vanilla.

Taste + Texture

Texture-wise, this is very similar to the red Velvet variant. Neither too light, nor too dense, this was soft which indicated the freshness. In terms of flavor, this cake was dominant on vanilla as compared to chocolate. However, we did notice an eggy taste that brought down the experience marginally.
