Our Review Factors
What were we looking for when reviewing ready to eat aloo paratha?
The flavors, texture (mouthfeel), and overall convenience were gauged.
1. Taste
This was the prime focus of our review. Was the filling well-seasoned? Over salted, spicy, or just right? What about freshness? Did we taste any odd flavors, synthetic aftertaste?
2. Texture
Was the filling to paratha ratio adequate? Was the filling smooth or were there lumps and chunks of potatoes? What about the dough, too thick or paper-thin? Too doughy or crisp and flaky?
3. Other Parameters
Non-tasting parameters like price, packaging, and shelf life were gauged. Is the packaging convenient? Can you store leftover parathas in the same pack?
Instant Aloo Paratha – Our Review Process
The reviewing was fairly simple. We pre-heated our non-stick tawa and let the paratha cook evenly from both sides till it was golden brown. We smeared some refined oil for those brands that specified this. We did not use ghee as it has a distinct taste of its own. Once cooked, the tasting began.
Note: Use a non-stick tawa as most RTE parathas do not call for oil/ghee during cooking. Initially, we used a hard anodized tawa but the parathas started sticking to the surface and were fairly challenging to flip.
Instant Aloo Paratha – Detailed Review
The following section discusses our detailed experience with each RTE aloo paratha brand.
1. Haldirams Minute Khana Aloo Pyaz Paratha – Mishry Top Pick
Our Experience
Haldiram’s Aloo Paratha featured a lip-smacking flavor profile. The seasoning was quite good and the salt and spices were in a favorable balance. It tasted fresh and had an inviting flavor of coriander. The paratha crisped up beautifully without any oil. In terms of texture, the dough was thick but did not impact the flavor. The filling to paratha ratio was spot-on. This also had onion bits that added a sweet crunchy bite.

2. GOELD Aloo Paratha
Our Experience
This was quite flavorful as well. The aloo stuffing was yellow with small bits of onions. With a moderate thickness, these parathas showcased a well-rounded flavor profile. This cooked well and developed some crispiness. That said, the paratha was slightly flaky, but it did not make a major impact on the overall experience.
Of all the contenders, Goeld Aloo Paratha had the highest proportion of potatoes (50%) but this was not reflected in the taste or texture.

3. Keventer Aloo Paratha
Our Experience
The filling was really well seasoned with salt and had a prominent flavor of kasoori methi. Overall, the filling tasted fresh and yum. These were relatively thinner, medium-sized parathas. A drawback was the low ratio of filling to paratha. It wasn’t that we couldn’t taste the filling but a little more of it would have enhanced the experience. Suitable for people with a low-chilli tolerance.
Product Features
There were five parathas in a 400-gram pouch that is priced at Rs 130/- It has a 12-month shelf life and were packed in a white and red resealable pouch. A blue colored separator was placed between each paratha.

4. Sumeru Aloo Paratha
Our Experience
Of all the contenders, these were the thinnest parathas. They had a homestyle appearance. Unfortunately, despite being light and thin, these parathas tasted very doughy. There was barely any aloo filling in them. The flavors in the seasoning were almost bland. Moreover, we could see a lot of red chillies but none of it was reflected in terms of taste.
All-in-all, a very average product.
Product Features

Instructions

5. Buffet Aloo Paratha
Our Experience
With a fairly decent filling to paratha ratio, Buffet’s parathas had a medium thickness. Though the seasoning of the filling was quite balanced and tasted decent, it had an industrial aftertaste that brought down the entire experience. Moreover, this did not taste as fresh as the other contenders.
The filling had a generous amount of green bits (chilli + mint) and a mix of small and large pieces of potatoes. There were also some onion bits.
To wrap up, though this did not feel doughy and had a decent filling to paratha ratio, the aftertaste was disappointing.
