Here we gauged three primary aspects – freshness, balance of sweetness, and the flavor of gulkand. Is the flavor of gulkand intense or mild? This ice cream contains nuts too. Are they fresh-tasting?

When we talk about the texture, we look at the smoothness and creaminess of the ice cream. How easy was it to scoop? Any ice crystals observed in our pack? Do the nuts add a crunchy or chewy bite? Is the gulkand present in its jammy state or it is just flavoring? How does that add to the overall experience? 

3. Main Ingredients 

As ice cream, can be called that only if the primary ingredients are milk cream and/or milk solids. If it contains vegetable fat, it should be labeled as a frozen dessert. We scanned the ingredients to check the type of fats, sweeteners, and if any artificial colors or flavors were present. 

4. Other Parameters 

Packaging

Is the packaging sturdy? Is it easy to store the ice cream? 

Appearance

How appealing does this ice cream look? Is it loaded with nuts, or are they spread scarcely?

Here’s what we found during our review process of Amul Shalimar Ice Cream :

Product Inspection: Packed in a plastic cup, Amul Shalimar Ice Cream bags an attractive packaging. It is sealed securely with a tight lid. It has a shelf life of 9 months. 

The main ingredients used here are – Milk solids, Sugar, Gulkand,(6%) {sugar, rose petal}, Almond pieces (1%), Cashew pieces (1%), Pistachio (1%), and Raisins. Apart from that, these contain emulsifiers, stabilisers, nature identical flavoring substances, and colors.

This is correctly labeled as an ice cream as there is no vegetable fat.

Appearance – This ice cream has an off-white color. It is loaded with dry fruits. We could see tiny bits of pista that enhance the overall visual appeal of this ice cream. 

Texture: There are ample amounts of dry fruits in this ice cream and bits and pieces pop up in every bite. The almonds, cashews, and pistachios bring in a nice crunch. The plump raisins add a wonderful chewiness. This has a medium creamy texture. 

There are a lot of ice crystals which lower the overall experience as it reduces the creaminess further. The fat content, when compared to Amul’s vanilla gold ice cream, is lower which could also play a role in the reduced creaminess of the ice cream. Sadly, the rich milky creaminess we look for in an ice cream wasn’t as enhanced here.

Taste: The best and unique part of this ice cream is the subtle, refreshing flavor of gulkand. The raisins have a lovely sweet and sour taste. The natural sweetness of gulkand combined with the sugar in the ice cream makes the overall sweetness levels slightly higher. However, the dry fruits help tone it down.
