SUPERB!

Summary

Amul Rasmalai is very fresh and delectable. We loved the creamy, malaidaar consistency of this dessert. From the balanced sweetness levels to the small pistachio pieces, we liked how well this frozen rasmalai tastes. A 500-gram box of Amul Rasmalai costs Rs 200, which is fairly priced, keeping in mind that a single piece of Rasmalai at a local sweet house is priced somewhere between Rupees 25-40.

Ras Malai, Rasamalei, Rasmalai or Rossomalai is a popular milk-based Indian dessert that needs no introduction. There are many factors that play a crucial role in deciding the flavor and texture of the rasmalai – the type of milk used, the quality of chenna, kneading of the chenna dough, and the period for which the rasmalai ‘discs’ are boiled. When we think of instant desserts or packaged  Indian desserts, primarily milk-based desserts, we automatically assume that what will come out of thw pack would be unnatural, bad-tasting or even stale! But is that the case with Amul Rasmalai? Is the Frozen Amul Rasmalai fresh to taste? Does it have the soft and pillowy texture we associate with freshly made rasmalai? Here is the Amul Rasmalai Review.

Amul Rasmalai Review

Price and packaging – Amul’s Rasmalai comes in a box packaging. For a 500 gram box, the Amul Rasmalai is priced at Rs 200/- and contains eight pieces approximately. The frozen rasmalai, when kept in the refrigerator, will stay fresh for 2-3 days. Once open, keep refrigerated and consume within 24 hours. It is advisable to not refreeze the rasmalai once thawed.

Amul Rasmalai - Packaging

Appearance – Off-white in color, the Amul Rasmalai does not contain saffron (kesar), unlike a lot of rasmalais at popular Bengali sweet shops. The pieces of Amul rasmalai are smaller in size in comparison to the ones we get at local sweet shops. We can see a lot of pistachios sprinkled generously throughout the pack.

Pieces of Amul Rasmalai are much smaller than the ones we usually buy from local sweet shops.

Taste and texture – Melt-in-your mouth delicious! The Amul Rasmalai is very soft and has a lovely, fresh milkiness. Unlike a lot of packaged Indian desserts, this does not taste industrial or synthetic. The mild elaichi flavor, along with small pista pieces, add a delicious touch to the rasmalai. The sweetness levels are balanced, and even after a few bites, it doesn’t feel overpowering.

Amul Rasmalai has a very creamy texture, and the consistency is bang on. It looks a little fluffy but is not dry or dense from inside at all. There are little malai like lumps (rabdi), which are smooth and creamy.

A close look at the Amul Rasmalai

Would we buy the Amul Rasmalai again? Definitely! This product is perfect for those people who have a sweet tooth and like to stock up on different types of desserts at home. As the Amul Rasmalai has a longer shelf life, this is a good option to stock in the freezer.

To summarise our Amul Rasmalai Review – It is a well-made dessert that is true to its milky flavor, and you just cannot guess if this is a frozen, packaged dessert. Thumbs up for the Amul Rasmalai from Team Mishry!
