Our Review Factors
What were our focus parameters when reviewing Fun Flips Puffs?
The primary review-forming parameters were taste and texture. We also gauged the price and packaging. Since this does not claim to be a healthy product, we only glanced at the ingredient list and did not rate these chips on the nutritional values.
1. Taste
Both flavor labels seem promising. Do the actual flavors provide justice to the tags? How are the puffs seasoned? Overdone on one flavoring agent or well-balanced? Fresh or artificial-tasting?
Are these addictive? Does it make for a snack where you could savor the entire pack in a sitting?
2. Texture
We were looking for fresh and crisp but light and airy puffs. These should be devoid of any oily/greasy mouthfeel.
How was our experience with Fun Flips Puffs?
3. Other Parameters
Here, we took into account all non-tasting parameters like price, packaging, shelf life, etc.
Fun Flips Puffs Flavors – Detailed Review
The following section explains our experience with the two variants of Fun Flips Puffs.
1. Hot & Saucy
Price + Packaging
A 50-gram pack is priced at Rs 125/- It has a shelf life of four months. It has red and black graphics and is not resealable.
Main Ingredients
These puffs are baked, not fried, and are made with Corn meal (72.30%), Edible vegetable oil (palm oil), Sugar, Iodised salt, Refined wheat flour, Spices and condiments (onion powder, red chilli, garlic powder, coriander, cumin powder), Rice meal, Tomato powder, Hydrolyzed vegetable protein, Acidity regulator (INS330), Flavor enhancer (INS627, INS631).
It also contains nature and nature-identical flavoring substances.
Aroma + Appearance
As soon as we opened the pack, there was a robust aroma of dried red chilli powder. Each piece had a unique shape with a tinge of yellow/orange.
Taste + Texture
These had a light mouthfeel, they did not feel too greasy or oily on the palate. These Fun Flips were crisp and felt fresh, owing to this texture. As for taste, it was a desirable blend of sweet and spice. With a sweet start, the puffs end on a warmer, spicier note. We like that the spice was not too overwhelming, it is something that can be enjoyed across ages.
But this isn’t a flavor you would want to pick up regularly as a swap for your masala puffs.
- Very crisp
- Light and airy
- True to its flavor tag
- Desirable balance of salt and sugar
- Baked, not fried
A road trip, something to nibble on while dinner is being prepped- we suggest trying Fun Flips Puffs in Hot & Saucy.
2. Sizzling Chinese
Price + Packaging
One pack holds 125 grams of product and is priced at Rs 50/- with a shelf life of four months. This variant comes in a red and maroon packing.
Main Ingredients
Corn meal (72.30%), edible vegetable oil (palmolein oil), iodised salt, sugar powder, spices & condiments [ Garlic, powder, onion powder, red chilli, ginger powder], rice meal, corn maltodextrin, soy sauce powder, hydrolyzed soy protein, acidity regulator (INS330), flavor enhancer (INS 627, INS 631) are the ingredients that go in the making.
Aroma + Appearance
Like the above variant, these too have non-identical shapes. Here, the most dominant aroma was that of dry ginger. Pungent and robust, we missed the garlic, chilli notes that Chinese dishes usually have.
Taste + Texture
These baked puffs had a texture and crunch similar to the first variant we tried. As for the flavor, this was just dominant on the pungent warmth of ginger. This was the only ‘Chinese’ aspect on the flavor profile. The spice was too mild and there were no traditional Chinese flavors like those of garlic, chilli, or soy.
Definitely not something we would go back for.
