Summary
Heavy on coconut flavor, this peanut butter has a very particular audience. The mild roasted peanut butter flavor is fresh. We would have liked it a lot better if the ingredient list was cleaner.
Peanut butter is protein packed and YUM. Add another good source of fat like coconut to it and it turns even more delicious. Or not? In a Southern-inspired chutney, the combination of peanuts and coconuts is heavenly, but in a nut butter, do these flavors marry?
Our Alpino coconut peanut butter smooth review is based upon our taste test that revolved around its flavor, texture, and spreadability. We also checked for the list of ingredients and nutrition label.

Our Review Factors
What are we looking for? We were looking for a smooth, easy to spread, deliciously nutty peanut butter with balanced coconut and roasted peanut flavor.
We set the following parameters to test Alpino coconut peanut butter smooth.
1. Flavor
Coconut and peanuts are both very strong, individualistic flavors and mixing them up in the form of a nut butter could taste overwhelming.
We checked how prominent or subtle the flavor of coconut was. Is the flavor of peanut robust, fresh and nutty? How sweet is the flavor profile? Any oily aftertaste? How balanced and in-sync are the peanut-coconut flavors?
2. Texture (Consistency + Spreadability)
We were looking for a nut butter with a non-clumpy smooth texture. Considering this is a creamy/smooth PB – how easy is it to spread on toasted and untoasted bread?
3. Ingredients + Nutri Label
Ingredients
Which are the prime ingredients used? Any preservatives and additives? How is coconut added to the peanut butter – is it an essence or the actual fruit?
Nutritional Information
We checked for the protein, calories, fats and sugar content of the peanut butter.
4. Others
Aroma
Fresh, nutty and non-oily is what we were looking for.
Price, shelf life and packaging were also checked.
Alpino Coconut Peanut Butter Smooth – Detailed Review
Price and packaging
Alpino’s Coconut Peanut Butter comes in a plastic jar. A 400 gm pack is priced at Rs 219/-.
Aroma
The aroma is predominantly of coconut with a fresh peanutty aroma in the background.
Ingredients and nutrition
The ingredient list includes roasted peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated soya oil, salt, emulsifier (E 471-100% plant based), and coconut flavor.
This is definitely not the most clean ingredient list we have seen when it comes to nut butters. In a time where PB’s are being consumed for their protein and fat content, this lags far behind. That said, it’s not labeling itself as a ‘clean’ PB. It has sugar, hydrogenated soya oil, an emulsifier obtained from soy oil and coconut flavor.
E471 can be obtained from either animal fats or soybean oil. The label says it’s 100% plant based.
Coming to the nutri label. Per serve (32 grams) this peanut butter provides 8 gms of protein which is pretty standard, has 2 gms of added sugar, and 16 grams of total fat. This has no trans fats and cholesterol.
How did we taste this?
We tasted this twice – as is and on an untoasted slice of bread. This also helped us check for spreadability.
Texture and spreadability
Smooth, creamy, non-oily and super easy to spread. Just like most sweetened nut butters, the fine granules of sugar can be felt on your tongue when you eat this.
We have no complaints about the texture/spreadability of this peanut butter.
Taste
Three things that are bold and noticeable almost immediately are that this has a dominant coconut flavor, peanuts taste fresh but are mild, and that the sweetness is light as the salt helps cut through.
The PB is not oily to taste and has a certain nutty creaminess. The pleasingly subtle bitter flavor of roasted peanuts was liked by all our reviewers.
Pros
- Excellent spreadability.
- Smooth texture, as promised.
- We liked that the salt cuts through the sweetness.
- No oily aftertaste.
Cons
- The ingredient list could have been better.
- Flavor of coconut is too dominant.
Best Suited For
Die hard fans of both – coconuts and peanut butter? You will love this! Others, maybe not.
