SUPERB!
Summary
We had a truly wonderful experience with the Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolates. This is an interesting play on flavors and textures that offer an exciting change from a plain chocolate bar.
It’s known for its sweetness but some love it bitter- can you guess what it is? Chocolate!
In 2019, under the Madbury initiative, the brand gave consumers a chance to suggest ingredients for uniquely flavored chocolate bars using the brand’s milk chocolate as the base and adding up to two flavoring ingredients.
In this Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolate bars review, we talk about four variants- Gulab ae Khaas and Chilli Orange from 2020 and Crunchy Cola and Crispy Rabri the following year.
Of the four, which fusion is genuinely worth a try?

Our Review Factors
We set out to find whether or not the interesting ingredients used in these innovative chocolate bars complement each other in our Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury chocolate.
1. Flavor
Each Madbury variant combines two additional flavors/ingredients. What proportion of chocolate to flavoring ingredients has been used? Could we still taste the milk chocolate or did the additions have a stronger presence? Do the flavors work well? If yes, how prominent is their presence? Does the chocolate retain its milky taste? Do the nuts/fruit peels taste industrial? Overall, are these chocolate bars ideal for that post-meal dessert?
2. Texture/Mouthfeel
Was Crispy Rabri ‘crispy’? What about Crunchy Cola? Had the Gems turned soggy or did they retain the crunch? Did the almonds in Gulaab ae Khaas have the nutty bite? How was our experience with Chilli Orange?
3. Innovation
Are these flavors truly unique or do other brands already offer these combinations?
4. Other Parameters
We checked the price, packaging, and shelf life under this parameter.
Cadbury Dairy Milk Madbury Chocolate Bars – Detailed Review
Here’s all you need to know about the new flavored variants by Cadbury.
1. Gulaab ae Khaas
Rose petals, rose essence are widely used in Indian kitchens, especially in dessert preparations. It adds a floral taste and aroma that uplifts the entire dish when used in correct proportions.
Dried rose petals are also used to add some texture along with almonds. Madbury Gulaab ae Khaas has a milk chocolate base that is flavored with rose and has 10% almonds. We had nothing but high hopes from this one and it fully delivered on all promises!
An observation we made before the taste test- all almond bits have settled at the base, they aren’t evenly distributed. However, every single bite has a nutty crunch, so no complaints.
- The cocoa used in these chocolates is 100% sustainably sourced.
- Rose with chocolate is a very innovative take.
- The almonds used are well roasted.
- There’s a mix of crushed almonds and almond bits that add a crunchy texture.
- The rose flavor is super fresh.
- It somehow enhances the chocolatey flavor too.
- All flavors and ingredients are in sync, no one overpowers the other.
A floral twist on your regular bar of chocolate that is also budget-friendly? Look no further! Madbury’s Gulaab ae Khaas brings just the right amount of rosiness with crunchy roasted almond bits, all packed in a bar of milk chocolate.
You can add a few cubes to a glass of warm/chilled milk or savor it as it comes. Melt the cubes using the double boiler method for chilled milk.
2. Chilli Orange
There’s one version of a sweet-salty, super indulgent snack all across the globe. From the classic PB and J sandwich to chicken and waffles, pairing sweet and salty is a basic practice followed in the culinary world. Just a tiny pinch of salt enhances the sweetness. But sweet and SPICY? We were super intrigued to taste citrus-flavored spicy milk chocolate.
After the taste test and some surprised reactions, there’s one thing we can collectively agree on- you need a higher-than-average spice tolerance to enjoy this ‘chocolate’. The chilli kick comes in a bit later, but for people who like to try out innovative flavors would like this.
- The flavor profile this chocolate bar brings is complex and intense!
- We can see tiny orange nuggets that resemble raisins.
- Each element makes its presence felt in stages.
- It starts with the classic taste of Dairy Milk.
- The spice kick is strong.
- A refreshing taste is brought on by the orange nuggets.
If you’re looking to surprise your tastebuds (and yourself), the Chilli Orange Madbury is a must-try!
3. Crispy Rabri
This is a pairing of Rabdi with crunchy butterscotch bits. In terms of texture, the chocolate itself has a smooth mouthfeel. This is paired with tiny butterscotch bits that add a crunch. Butterscotch has a praline-like bite, quite hard.
The aroma and taste were equally heavenly. The aroma was like that of condensed milk – sweet and creamy. Despite having rabdi, butterscotch, and chocolate, this did not taste overly sweet. It was fairly good to eat.
One bar has 10 squares. This is priced at Rs 45/- and has a nine-month shelf life.
- We quite liked the texture.
- The sweetness was balanced.
- This made for a pretty decent combination.
Are you fan of traditional milk-based desserts like rabdi? We’d recommend trying Omkar Madhav Awate’s Madbury- Crispy Rabdi.
4. Crunchy Cola
Mugdha Satish Kulkarni’s Madbury is a mix of fizzy cola and crunchy Gems. The aroma and taste were prominent on cola. We could see some multicolored crushed pieces of Gems. In terms of texture, the chocolate base was silky smooth, no complaints here. The Gems had retained a slight crunch but had some grittiness too.
Taste-wise, both flavor profiles cola and Gems were quite prominent and made a mark. However, as a pair, the flavors were not in sync, they did not work well together.
